South River Greenway officially opening (March 16, 2012, News Virginian)
Years of planning, grants and obtaining of easements will be celebrated Saturday morning with the grand opening of the first phase of Waynesboro’s South River Greenway, a stretch of trail about a mile in length from Loth Springs to Constitution Park.

Greenway Trail – Phase 1

Project Purpose: Recreation amenity for citizens. Increase access to the South River. Attract tourists, residents, and new businesses to Downtown.
Project Area: One mile trail starting from Loth Spring/the YMCA and ending at the Dominion Pavilion in Constitution Park.
Types of Physical Improvements: 10-foot wide asphalt trail, benches, and trees.
Budget:
Grant/ Fundraising Period: 2000 to 2006
Funding Source: Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant/ 20% City Match/ Mill at South River contributions
Construction Period: 2011
Current Status: Completed 2011
