Downtown Streetscape

The first impression a tourist, shopper or perspective business person receives of Downtown is the street. Improving that first impression by improving the aesthetics of the street is critical to attracting new users. Equally important, the physical street environment is a critical element in the effort to keep people coming back to Downtown. If we want a successful downtown business and entertainment district, it is critical that we build an attractive place where people like and want to visit.

The proposed streetscape improvements include repairing and replace the sidewalks, adding brick banding and brick sidewalks in key areas, planting street trees, and providing benches, bike racks, trash cans, planters, and street lights. Together, these features define and brand the Downtown and will promote future residential, business, and retail growth. Planning for the City’s streetscape project began in 2000 with the Whitesell Downtown Streetscape Plan. Click to download a copy of the plan.
